Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols to appear at Star Trek 50 celebration at the BFI in October

The BFI is getting into the spirit of the Star Trek 50th anniversary celebrations, with a celebratory on-stage event with special guest Nichelle Nichols planned for this coming October.

When the original Star Trek launched 50 years ago, Nichelle Nichols' ground-breaking performance as Lt Uhura (one of the first black series regulars on US TV in a non-subordinate role) was one of the many factors that made the series stand out and resonate with fans throughout the world. Since then the original idea has been revised, re-imagined, spun-off and totally reinvented. This on-stage event - hosted by Samira Ahmed (with other guests to be announced nearer the time) - will look back at the whole, hugely successful Star Trek franchise, including the recent J J Abrams films and the upcoming TV series Star Trek: Discovery.
