Right under your noses in SE London is a incredibly active and diverse film club scene covering Forest Hill, Greenwich, New Cross, Dulwich, and beyond. Perfect for those who can't stand the howling kids and stench of overripe popcorn in modern multiplex cinemas.
The kaleidoscope of clubs and events listings are grouped under the handy umbrella of the South East London Film CLub Listings Site.
Many of these screenings, events and mini-film seasons take place in offbeat locations like cafes, pubs, even the odd cemetery now and then (as in some cases the clubs are able to run screenings in buildings not usually open to the public- the Samaritans HQ in Denmark Hill was a recent surprise venue). Other venues and groups linked in to the SE London Film Club listings include the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and the Woolwich Grand Theatre. Often the screenings are free and BYO. Recent releases like American Hustle rub shoulders with old classics from Hollywood and the wider world.
