Leaks hint at Warner's movie plans for its DC Comics characters after Batman v Superman

Gossip hound Nikki Finke has, if this turns out to be true, scored a real prize of a leak here with this Warner Bros. story. She has apparently got her hands on details of that studio's plans (which they were to announce at Comic-Con in July) to develop its DC Comics characters beyond the already- announced Batman V Superman film currently shooting now under the watchful eyes of Zack Snyder for a May 6 2016 release (pushed back from the original summer 2015 plan, which Finke says is due to wanting to shift the film to plan more for Avengers-style team-ups and cameos). Finke's revelations seem to confirm the long-held suspicions that Warner/DC do in fact intend to build a larger, shared cinematic universe for its characters, and one to rival that of competitor studio Marvel.

Finke claims that Dawn Of Justice will be followed up with a Shazam movie in July 2016 (which may feature Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson). Following that film will come Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who already has connection to DC property given his role in The Dark Knight Rises) with his adaptation of the DC/Vertigo imprint comic Sandman (assuming that the project 100% goes ahead.)

2017 will finally see a superhero team up in a "Justice League" type movie in May. Interestingly,  Wonder Woman (played in the Batman V Superman movie by Gal Gadot) will finally get a solo picture that July. Christmas 2017 will see an as-yet untitled movie teaming up The Flash and Green Lantern, who will NOT be played by Ryan Reynolds who starred in the poorly received 2011 movie that now seems doomed to be a one-off. An actual sequel to the 2013 Man of Steel movie, which saw Henry Cavill star as the titular character, will only arrive in May 2018, five years after the first film.

We won't know if Finke is on the money until the lights go up on Hall H at SDCC in July.

The DC/Warners film schedule:

May 2016 – Batman v Superman

July 2016 – Shazam

Xmas 2016 – Sandman

May 2017 – Justice League

July 2017 – Wonder Woman

Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up

May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2
