Deptford Cinema, THU 4TH JUN, 2015 8:00pm
The new community run Deptford cinema continues to put on an eclectic, alternative programme, with this June 4th event promising a striking exploration of memory and collective consciousness by way of film clip sampling and mashup.
From the Deptford Cinema:
June 4th will see the UK premiere of media artist Kasumi's Shockwaves: a dazzling tour through over 25,000 public domain film samples, rotoscoped and live action film clips that, combined with stunning sound design, produces a darkly madcap, grotesque and transcendent exploration of the nature of memory and our collective consciousness.
Kasumi, a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow, is a genuine polymath recognized worldwide for her accomplishments as a filmmaker, visual artist, musician, writer and performer. Her work has been screened worldwide: from Lincoln Center with The New York Philharmonic to performances with Grandmaster Flash. BREAKDOWN, the 2010 Vimeo Remix Award winner, premiered at Carnegie Hall with the American Composers Orchestra. She has created new works for the Cleveland Museum of Art, EMPAC (Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center), Instituto Superior de Arte del Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, Württembergischen Kunstverein, Stuttgart; and her work also was featured at Art Miami, Art Palm Beach, unpainted Media Art Fair, Munich, Museum of Contemporary Art, Krakow, Contemporary Museum Wroclaw, Itau Cultural Center, Sao Paulo, The Butler Institute of American Art, The Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Museu de Arte Moderna, Rio de Janeiro, San Diego Museum of Art, Chroma Festival de Arte Audiovisual, Mexico, and many others.
