28 April, Ritzy Picturehouse, 8.15pm
Arriving in the UK after garnering great buzz on the festival circuit (it played LFF 2014), Celine Sciamma's GIRLHOOD will preview at the Ritzy with the director taking part in a Q&A after. Essential indie film viewing this month.
From Céline Sciamma, the director of TOMBOY and WATER LILLIES, comes the critically acclaimed GIRLHOOD. The film is an intimate portrait of female friendship and a compelling coming of age story. A key film at both Cannes (opening the Directors Fortnight) and the London Film Festival last year the film is an absolute must-see.
Set in the Paris suburbs, Girlhood follows Marieme, a strong-willed girl who is oppressed by her family setting, dead-end school prospects and the boys law in the neighborhood. Marieme starts a new life after meeting a group of 3 free-spirited girls. She changes her name, her dress code, and quits school to be accepted in the gang, hoping that this will be a way to freedom.
We are delighted to welcome Celine Sciamma for a Q&A following this screening.
