FEBRUARY 6, 2015 - 19:00 FRONTLINE CLUB
In November 2013, the protests in Ukraine began peacefully but eventually, after much confusion and chaos, drums, bagpipes and European flags seamlessly turned into bloody resistance. When the first casualties fell on both sides, no matter how black and white it seemed from outside, the line between good and bad blurred.
This collective project by Ukrainian filmmakers Oleksandr Techynskyi, Aleksey Solodunov and Dmitry Stoykov, offers a powerful insight into the way the events unfolded in Kiev. All Things Ablaze is about much more than Ukraine, it is about civil war, authority, and the capability of human beings when a society is thrown into violent chaos.
This screening is in partnership with Frontline Club and will be followed by a Q&A with director Oleksandr Techynskyi and a discussion with Olga A. Onuch, a Lecturer in Politics at the University of Manchester, an expert on protests and activism in Ukraine. Olga has been a Fellow at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute.
