Joe is on general release from 25 July 2014.
Joe is a film I've had my eye on for some time, given it features the combination of David Gordon Green (continuing his return to dramatic indie fare, as this follows the well-receveid Prince Avalanche) and Nicholas Cage in what looks a return back to the kind of serious heavyweight roles he can really excel in (as with a favourite of mine, Leaving Las Vegas).
Synopsis from Curzon Website:
"The Sheridan plays Gary, a young lad who is subject to constant physical abuse by his alcoholic father (Gary Poulter), who turns up at Joe’s (Nicolas Cage) workplace one day, asking for work. Joe takes him in, but it soon becomes clear that the benevolent boss has his own demons to face down. David Gordon Green’s understated drama profits from one of Nicolas Cage’s finest performances. "
